The G2 Gallery Presents Nature LA: Jennifer MaHarry
May 25 — June 21, 2010
Venice, CA – On Tuesday, May 25, 2010, The G2 Gallery will premiere Nature LA: Jennifer MaHarry. Jennifer will present “Wild Horses,” a series of large-format, color, and black & white images capturing the beauty, majesty, and vulnerability of a herd of mustangs.
Nature LA is an ongoing series of solo exhibitions presenting the work of Los Angeles's most compelling emerging photographers whose output is expanding the existing field of nature photography. Curated by G2 Gallery Director Jolene Hanson, each exhibit approaches a specific set of ideas regarding the natural world, explored visually through the photographer's lens.
Shot during the spring of 2008, in the mountains above Lake Casitas, just south of Santa Barbara, Jennifer confronted a herd of Shoshone Indian mustangs that she describes as “beautiful and terrifying.” In spite of their fearless, commanding presence, the mustangs who roamed free in “Wild Horses” had been recently saved from possible extermination. The resulting images effectively alternate between the fragility and fierce spirit of the horses.
An opening reception for Nature LA: Jennifer MaHarry will be held June 4, 2010 at 6:00 pm, coinciding with Abbot Kinney First Friday.
