American Photo Selects Robert Glenn Ketchum as First Nature Photographer to be Named “American Master”
The G2 Gallery Will Exhibit Robert Glenn Ketchum: A Life in Photography in Celebration of the Artist’s Achievement May 4–June 20, 2010
Venice, CA – On May 4, 2010, The G2 Gallery will premiere Robert Glenn Ketchum: A Life in Photography an exhibition commemorating Robert’s inclusion in American Photo’s elite “American Masters” series.

In 20-years of publishing American Photo magazine has only designated four photographers in their American Masters series: Henri Cartier-Bresson, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton and Annie Leibovitz. Los Angeles photographer Robert Glenn Ketchum is now the fifth in this series and the only image-maker among these photographic luminaries that works from nature.

In celebration of this acknowledgment, The G2 Gallery will present Robert Glenn Ketchum: A Life in Pictures, surveying recent additions to Robert’s oeuvre of groundbreaking work in conservation photography and beyond. The show will offer select images from Robert’s ongoing efforts to protect the salmon fishery of Bristol Bay and the related habitat of southwest Alaska. Also included will be new work from his digitally altered “mural” project that expands upon Choose Joy, first exhibited at The G2 Gallery in 2008.

The “American Masters” series article will appear in the March/April edition of American Photo. Exhibition related events include an opening reception Friday, June 4, and an artist’s talk given by Robert, in June 18.

About Robert Glenn Ketchum
For over 40 years, Robert Glenn Ketchum's photography and writing have focused public attention on complex issues of environmental politics, while at the same time helping to define contemporary color photography. Acknowledged by Audubon magazine as one of the 100 people "who shaped the environmental movement of the 20th century," Robert has used photography and advocacy in tandem to effect tangible successes that have resulted in the preservation of some of America’s few remaining wild places. Robert’s ability to weave his words and imagery into national media campaigns, widely seen exhibitions, and public speaking agendas, has proven an invaluable way to promote issues, raise money and drive meaningful legislation, making him one of the most successful artist/activists in American history.
