G2 Gallery Presents Robert Turner:
Rare Places in a Rare Light
Solo Exhibition of Images by Celebrated Nature Photographer Robert Turner,
September 22–November 8, 2009
Venice, CA–On September 22, 2009, The G2 Gallery will present the solo exhibition Robert Turner: Rare Places in a Rare Light. Robert’s body of work to date is a stunning collection of photographs that, in his words, "will inform the soul and convey my deep belief in the fundamental value of wild places."
From the Pacific Northwest to the Great Smoky Mountains and the canyon lands of the Colorado Plateau to the hardwood forests of Maine, this exhibition captures both the grandeur and intimacy of North America's precious wild lands. His large, strongly composed prints communicate the moods of rare moments, both intimate and grand, captured across the continent in his pursuit of the light on the land. Robert’s ever-watchful lens has isolated remarkable instants in time–at the edge of a storm, after a rain, in the afterglow of sunset–when light upon the land intensifies color to almost magical proportions.
This artist-curated exhibit has traveled around the country to prestigious natural history museums in Cleveland, San Diego, and at Harvard University. Exhibition related events will include a private artist’s reception Friday, September 25, an Abbot Kinney First Friday reception with the artist on Friday, October 2, and an artist talk on Thursday, October 15, 7 pm. The exhibit closes Sunday, November 8.
All proceeds from this exhibition will benefit environmental charities.
About Robert Turner
An avid conservationist, Robert Turner’s love for the outdoors has kept him out in the field and behind the camera for over thirty years. He began his career as a documentary filmmaker, shooting in locations like the Andes Mountains of Peru. After winning various awards and accolades at international film festivals, Robert shifted his focus to large format still photography. In a typical year Bob will travel 30,000 miles, crisscrossing the country in search of the right scene illuminated by the perfect light. When he is not out on this quest, he makes his home in Del Mar, California.
