Venice, CA – On March 21, 2017, The G2 Gallery will open Emerging IX: Holly Peskin. G2’s annual Emerging exhibit showcases work from rising talents. For the ninth installment, local artist Holly Peskin will present predominately black and white avian photography of Southern Californian birds in all their glory.

Peskin’s interest in photography began at an early age. Having a natural eye for composition, her photographs garnered immediate attention, winning the California State Fair Photography Competition at age fourteen. It wasn’t until five years ago that Peskin began developing her photography skills in earnest, investing in professional equipment, attending workshops, and learning advanced techniques.

Birds were an obvious subject for her work, having grown up along the coast in Los Angeles. Peskin frequently travels to Marina del Rey, Santa Monica and Malibu to capture her avian images. Having noticed the volume of documentary-style bird photography, Peskin opted to use fine art elements in her imagery.

“Holly’s point of view is captivating,” says Curator Monika Basse. “It’s compelling to have a local photographer showcase local birds that flourish here but go mostly unnoticed by Los Angelenos.” The photos in the exhibit feature three native species: pelicans, herons and egrets. Her compositions capture the energy of movement as well as more intimate moments like nesting.

“The opportunity to team up with The G2 Gallery, knowing that the proceeds of any sales will benefit Audubon California, is a huge privilege,” adds Holly Peskin. “My hope is for viewers to perceive birds as I do, as fine art in motion, and to leave with a newfound desire to protect and preserve nature.”

The opening reception for Emerging IX: Holly Peskin, along with Andrei Duman: Aerials to Animals, will be held Saturday, March 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes complimentary wine, hors d’oeuvres and valet in front of the gallery. All proceeds from admissions and art sales will be donated to Audubon California and Eastern Sierra Audubon Society in support of Owens Lake. Please RSVP to
