xRez Studio is a collaboration between visual effects designer Eric Hanson and photographer Greg Downing. Founded in 2007, xRez Studio is a creative imaging studio pioneering new methods to capture and convey natural, urban, and imagined landscapes. In addition to being visually arresting, the spectacular proportions of the “extreme resolution gigapixel photography” produced by xRez has proven to be incredibly versatile in its ability to contribute to national park interpretation, geologic research, real estate marketing, feature film visual effects, and cultural heritage documentation.
Eric Hanson specializes in the creation of digital environments. His handiwork can be seen in such movies as The Day After Tomorrow, Cast Away, and Fantasia 2000. Eric is also Associate Professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts where he teaches the next generation of visual effects artists.
Greg Downing’s specialties are image-based 3D technologies and computational photography techniques. He has contributed his talents in these fields to the films Spider Man 3 and The Chronicles of Narnia, among others. His photographic work has been exhibited at major museums including the American Museum of Natural History.
