Nature LA: Oceanscapes

November 8, 2011 – December 31, 2011

Featuring: Nathanial Havholm

About Nature LA: Oceanscapes

“None of them knew the colour of the sky.” Inspired by this line from Stephen Crane's short story "The Open Boat,” photographer Nathanial Havholm's Oceanscapes series creates an optical illusion of shifting color in a seamless horizon. Shot over the course of a year from February 2010 to March 2011, and at all times of day, in different weather conditions, Nathanial stood at the edge of the Venice pier to photograph the merging of the sky and the ocean.

Based in Los Angeles, California, Nathanial Havholm has been using a camera professionally since 1996, documenting his travels. His work has been featured in Outside, Elle Décor, Venice, and In Style magazines, as well as the set walls of many television shows. His excursions have exposed him to much of the world; the intricate river systems of the Asmat region in Papua, Indonesia, the grace of Nomadic herders in a remote corner of Mongolia, the windswept summit of Mt. Everest, and thirty-five foot waves on the Bering Sea, to name a few. Extensive travel has nurtured his love for the natural world, and making images of its character has become a near obsession.

About Nature LA

Nathanial Havholm's artistic vision of the natural world is succinctly expressed in a series of images exhibited in Nature LA. The G2 Gallery’s ongoing series of fine art photography expresses themes dealing with our environment and identifies the emerging trends in the cutting edge of a new and visually alluring form of nature photography.
