Nature LA: Carolyn Cole

August 17, 2010 – September 10, 2010

About Carolyn Cole

Carolyn Cole is a staff photographer for the Los Angeles Times, where she has covered national and international news since 1994. Her coverage of the civil crisis in Liberia won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for feature photography. Carolyn is a two-time winner of the Robert Capa Medal for war photography from the Overseas Press Club of America -- for her work in Iraq and Liberia (2003) and her photographs of the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem (2002). She has earned four World Press awards and has also been named U.S. newspaper photographer of the year four times. Carolyn’s work tells a story through images and she considers herself a photojournalist rather than a documentary photographer or artist. Through her often precarious global travels, Carolyn is guided by the conviction that it is her job to inform readers in the hopes that they will be stirred to caring.

Art from Carolyn Cole's exhibit is not for sale.

About Nature LA

For 87 days straight, a broken oil well flowed into the Gulf Coast unchecked. Los Angeles Times staff photographer Carolyn Cole was on the scene documenting the impact of the spill on the local wildlife and the marine environment. For this very special edition of the Nature LA series, The G2 Gallery presents Carolyn’s powerful images of this unprecedented environmental incident and its aftermath.
