Larry Ulrich began his career as a photographer along Northern California’s north coast more than thirty years ago. It was the California redwood that first caught his eye and led him to a life’s work of captivating images, from the oceans of New Zealand to the landscapes of California. With the publication Big Sur to Big Basin, Larry surprises and intrigues us with both the panorama of the journey and the intimacy of his vision. This versatile photographer combines darkroom techniques and digital technology to create his delicate images of wilderness and the flowers and animals to whom it is home. In Wildflowers of California, a recent book produced with wife, Donna, Larry explores the wide variety of native flowers whose lovely fragility is increasingly threatened by the growth of non-native plants—a subject close to Larry’s heart.
