A Washington D.C. native, photographer Justin Carder Black found himself back in his hometown after a lengthy hiatus when he accepted the post of Director of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP) in June 2009. He earned this prestigious position after serving as the general manager and curator of Mountain Light Gallery in Bishop, CA, founded by Justin’s mentor, Galen Rowell. ILCP’s mission is to further environmental and cultural conservation through photography, and Justin contributes beyond his duties as director by continuing his work as a photographer in the field. Justin remains active by participating in RAVEs (Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition) with his peers on the ILCP, showing his large format photography in gallery exhibitions, and teaching workshops for emerging nature photographers.
