Jim Stimson has made the eastern Sierras of California his home for more than three decades. In an active lifestyle that includes backcountry skiing and climbing, he explores and shares his vision as a photographer.
In 1998, the Sierra Club honored Stimson with the Ansel Adams Photography Award for imagery that offers the viewer “a palette more often associated with the best in black and white photography of the land.” Selected by ForeWord Magazine as Book of the Year, Jim’s Mono Lake, Exploration and Reflections (1997) captures the fragility of a delicate ecosystem.
Jim’s work has been published extensively and has appeared in Smithsonian, Backpacker and Outdoor Photographer among others. He continues to shoot and exhibit throughout Europe and the United States.
