Dutch-born photographer Frans Lanting is known as one of the great nature photographers of our time. His work brings attention to environmental issues and his books and publications have increased worldwide awareness of endangered ecological treasures in far corners of the earth. Well known for his work documenting Bonobos, the last great ape species to be discovered in the Congo Basin and is also respected for his photo documentation of Zambia’s Luangwa Valley. He continues to be commissioned by the National Geographic, where he has served as a photographer-in-residence. Frans Lanting has received honors from World Press Photo and has been the BBC’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year. He is also a recipient of the Lennart Nilsson Award for his many years work on illustrating the wonders of nature. One of his current projects, LIFE, includes an interactive website, art exhibition, books and an orchestral performance with music by Philip Glass. The project was launched in 2006 and continues to tour North America and Europe as an interpretation of the history of Earth.
