About The Exhibit
For the fourth and final installment of our 100 Years of National Parks series celebrating the centennial of the National Park Service (NPS), we turn our focus to The West. It is our most extensive exhibition to date, featuring 64 framed images by 35 photographers – from United Nations award-winners to emerging Los Angeles artists – all capturing the spirit of this coast’s 172 NPS-maintained parks.
The West attempts to represent the vast diversity of geography, climate and beauty of the American West. Colorful gorges, strange buttes, lush forests, idyllic seashores, pristine lakes, snowcapped mountains, and ethereal deserts – perhaps no other region on Earth contains such variety. This exhibit showcases stunning, iconic views, unique perspectives on familiar places, and fresh looks at some of the West’s lesser-known parks.
Through these photographs, we can appreciate not only the tremendous nature of the landscapes, themselves, but also the immense amount ofwork done by the National Park Service to protect and preserve these spaces that truly are ‘America’s Best Idea.'”
